Jon Benjamin has a voice you probably know, and now he has a van. Or maybe he always had a van, and now he has a show. Jon Benjamin, or H. Jon Benjamin as he's sometimes known when he's writing early 20th century poetry, has been the voice of some of the best characters in recent cartoon shows like Dr. Katz, Home Movies, and Archer. While his new show does prominently feature his voice, the important difference to note is it also features his face and body, and is not, so far, animated. 


Jon Benjamin Has A Van, a title which sounds like it could be the beginning to a scheme or heist or kidnapping plan, premiered the other night on Comedy Central. It had, as far as I know, massive ratings and overwhelming critical and public praise. I haven't looked into any of that, so I'll just go ahead and assume it's true. Because you know what they say when you assume: you're always right.


Jon Benjamin has been a staple in the New York comedy scene for a very long time, and he's brought along some other favorites into the fold, like Leo Allen (SNL) and Jon Glaser (Delocated). This show promises to at the very least have them and a van involved, and as we know from good and bad experiences with vans, that can mean a whole lot more than meets the eye.

You'd think he's outraged, maybe. Or confused about exactly how he should feel. That might be because he apparently read the script character direction of "disappointed" and shouted it as a real line. And the director kept it, because it is awesome. Here's how I imagine this shoot taking place. Kevin: What is my character's motivation? Director: Well, if you take a look at the script -- Kevin: Gotcha. Say no more. After... Director: Kevin, I don't mean to tell you how to do your job, because I'm only the director, but you just read a character direction as a line of dialogue... Kevin: I did...? Really? ....DISAPPOINTED! Director: You're right, I love it, don't get upset! We'll use it, you're great. Kevin: GRATITUDE
